Three Instances Where Hiring A Lawyer For A Speeding Ticket Is An Excellent Idea

Hiring a lawyer is not an inexpensive endeavor by any means. The only time you might get a lawyer for "cheap" is when you have been charged with murder and you do not have enough money to hire a lawyer. In that case, the courts will appoint one, but you may eventually still have to pay something for the lawyer's services. So, why would you hire a lawyer to get out of paying a speeding ticket? Most speeding tickets would cost you less than it costs to hire a lawyer, and if the lawyer cannot get the ticket cancelled, then you still have to pay the lawyer and the ticket. Well, it may surprise you, but there are some instances where hiring a lawyer for the defense of a speeding ticket actually makes a lot of sense.

They Got the Wrong Guy/Gal

You get the ticket, but it was not you driving or it was not your car. This does happen. Sometimes there are glitches in traffic cams and radar guns that tag people as speeding, when really it was the vehicle near them or the vehicle running ahead of them (which makes more sense). When you are absolutely certain that it was not you, only a lawyer can help you prove that it was someone else. Thankfully, police dash cameras help prove your case when dash camera footage is stored with the police and released to lawyers for cases like this one.

You Are Only Points Away from Losing Your License

Ouch, that is a tough one. You already have a ton of points removed from your license. You definitely cannot lose anymore. You need your license and your car to make a living. A lawyer can argue with the court to keep your remaining points and keep your license, although you may still have to pay the full fine and/or attend driving school.

Your Life or Your Safety Was in Danger

Not so common; however, if another driver was trying to run you off the road or another driver kept trying to rear-end you, shoot you, or get you to have an accident, you might have a valid excuse. Sadly, if the police pulled you over for speeding, it means that the person attempting to do you harm just got away. A lawyer can help you find either witnesses or the person responsible and get your ticket thrown out.

If any of the above situations apply to you, contact a speeding ticket lawyer to get started on your case right away.
